FAQs

You will a list of our frequently asked questions below. If you have any further questions, please let us know.

Can I have IPL after other cosmetic treatments?

Please allow at least 2 weeks after having Botox, Vistabel, Dysport, dermal fillers or other injectable fillers before having laser or IPL.

Please allow at least 1 month after having glycolic peels (above 40%) before treatments.

Can I have IPL whilst pregnant?

Pregnancy alters the body's hormones and therefore could affect hair growth and pigmentation. We ask that clients do not start treatments, or if pregnant during a course of treatments, then stop until 3 months after childbirth. If you stop midway and have an expiring offer, we would extend the expiry date by 12 months for you to finish the course. Please note in these cases, we reserve the right to request a copy of your Maternity Certificate MAT B1.

Can I have treatment anywhere on the body?

Except for the eye socket, we can treat all areas of the face and body.

Do I need to tell you about my medication?

We ask that you inform us of your medication to check against any photosensitivity. People taking certain medication such as sulfonamide (antibiotics), tetracyclines (acne), thiazide diuretics (blood pressure) have increased susceptibility to adverse effects from IPL and Laser.

Do the treatments affect my fertility?

No, our machines and equipment do not produce ionising radiation like some other IPL and Laser machines. We also filter out all ultraviolet light (<400nm), which means you are not exposed to dangerous emissions.

Does it hurt?

IPL is less painful than traditional forms of epilation, and certainly less than waxing. The amount of pain experienced varies from person to person, depending on personal pain thresholds, skin types and how sensitive the treatment area is. We take steps to to keep you comfortable during treatment and issue you after care guidance. During the treatment, it feels like an elastic band flicking against your skin with every flash. After the treatment, it is common to feel a little sunburnt. This should subside after a day or two.

How do I know if I'm unsuitable?

At the consultation, we will discuss whether the treatment area is suitable for our treatments. At present, we are unable to offer treatments to the following:

Skin: Fitzpatrick Skintype VI - black/very dark skin. This cannot be treated as there is a very high risk of skin burn. We recommend you find a clinic using a long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser for skin safety.

Hair: red/blond/grey/white hairs do not absorb enough energy to denature the hair structure. We recommend tradition forms of hair removal or electrolysis.

How long does each treatment take?

Treatments can take as little as 10 minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the treatment area.

How long does it take to recover?

There is very little if any recovery time, though you may have some redness following a treatment, this may last between one and eight hours. For 24 hours after your treatment you should avoid heat treatments, saunas and direct sun exposure, and follow our after care guidance.

How many treatments do I need?

The number of required treatments will vary between clients depending on skin colour, hair colour, texture and density, diet, stress levels, hormones, medical history and ultimately how you respond to treatments.

You also need to remember that 20-90% of hair is in the active growth phase depending on body site and hair cycle. Only hair in the growth phase can be treated, therefore a number of visits may be required. The lengths of the growth cycles also vary from 6 to 24 weeks.

For the best results, we recommend you complete a full course.
